A clogged or sticking EGR valve causes warning lights, rough running, limp mode and poor economy — and often shows up alongside AdBlue faults on modern diesels. We come to you, diagnose the EGR valve and cooler, and clean or replace as needed. Road-legal repair for road vehicles; off-road EGR solutions where eligible.

What does the EGR do — and why does it fault?

The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve feeds some exhaust gas back into the intake to lower combustion temperatures and NOx. On modern diesels — especially short-trip vehicles — soot and oil build into thick carbon that clogs the valve and cooler, so it sticks open or closed. That throws codes (P0401, P0402, P040x), causes rough idle, lost power and limp mode, and often appears alongside AdBlue and DPF faults. We diagnose the EGR valve and cooler and clean or replace as needed.

What we do

Diagnose, clean or replace

We scan the ECU, confirm whether the EGR valve or cooler is at fault, and clean the carbon build-up or fit a replacement — then clear the codes and confirm it runs cleanly.

Road-legal and MOT-ready when we’re done.

Often with AdBlue

EGR and AdBlue together

On modern diesels EGR and AdBlue faults frequently appear together. We can diagnose both in one mobile visit so you’re not booking twice.

How it works

A thorough mobile process — we come to you.

  • Confirm the fault. We scan the ECU to confirm whether it’s the EGR valve, the cooler or a related sensor at fault.
  • We come to you. Our specialist arrives at your home, work or yard anywhere across Birmingham & the West Midlands.
  • Clean or replace. We clean the carbon build-up or fit a replacement EGR valve or cooler as required.
  • Clear & confirm. We clear the codes and confirm the engine runs cleanly with the warning gone before we leave.

Mobile EGR diagnostics, with a quote first. We come to you across Birmingham & the West Midlands, diagnose the EGR valve and cooler on-site, and quote before any work — and we’ll advise whether a clean or a replacement is the right route.

Clean or replace?

We do whatever the EGR actually needs.

Clean

Where carbon build-up is the issue and the valve is sound, a clean restores it and keeps you road-legal.

Replace

Where the valve or cooler is failed or stuck, we fit a correct replacement — road-legal and MOT-ready.

Diagnose first

Not sure which? A scan confirms whether it’s the valve or the cooler before any work.

EGR diagnostics & repair — common questions

Quick answers before you book.

What are the symptoms of an EGR fault?

Warning lights, rough or lumpy idle, lost power and limp mode, poorer economy and sometimes more smoke — with codes like P0401 or P0402. A scan confirms whether it’s the valve or cooler.

Can the EGR be cleaned, or does it need replacing?

If the valve is carbon-clogged but sound, a clean often restores it. If it’s stuck or failed, it needs replacing. We confirm which after diagnosing and quote before any work.

Is an EGR delete legal?

No — an EGR delete removes factory emissions equipment and is for off-road vehicles only. For road vehicles we clean or replace the EGR to keep you road-legal and MOT-ready.

Do EGR and AdBlue faults go together?

Often, yes. Both are emissions systems on modern diesels and we frequently see them together — we can diagnose both in one mobile visit.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the vehicle and whether the EGR is cleaned or replaced, so we quote up front. Tell us your make, model and year.

Which areas do you cover?
